Description

IR Sensor Module – The IR Infrared Obstacle Avoidance Sensor Module by ADIY has a pair of infrared transmitting and receiving tubes. When the transmitted light waves are reflected back, the reflected IR waves will be received by the receiver tube. The onboard comparator circuitry does the processing and the green indicator LED comes to life.

The module features a 3-wire interface with VCC, GND, and an OUT pin on its tail. It works fine with 3v3 to 5V levels. Upon hindrance/reflectance, the output pin gives out a digital signal (a low-level signal). The onboard preset helps to fine-tune the range of operation, effective distance range is 2cm to 10cm.

How it works: IR Sensor Module
The white LED here is an IR LED which works as the transmitter and the component next to the IR LED is a photodiode that works as the receiver in the IR sensor. The IR transmitter continuously emits the IR light and the IR receiver keeps on checking for the reflected light. If the light gets reflected back by hitting any object in front it, the IR receiver receives this light. This way the object is detected in the case of the IR sensor. The blue knob here is a potentiometer. Users can control the range i.e. from how far you want to detect the object by changing the value of the potentiometer. An IR sensor has two small LED indicators – one for power, which is ON the entire time the sensor is ON; the other is the Signal LED which detects the object.

IR Sensor /Proximity Sensors are used to detect objects and obstacles in front of the sensor. The sensor keeps transmitting infrared light and when any object comes near, it is detected by the sensor by monitoring the reflected light from the object. It can be used in robots for obstacle avoidance, automatic doors, parking aid devices security alarm systems, or contactless tachometers by measuring the RPM of rotation objects like fan blades.
IR Sensor /proximity sensor is a sensor able to detect the presence of nearby objects without any physical contact. An IR proximity sensor emits a beam of Infrared radiation and looks for changes in the field or return signal. The object being sensed is often referred to as the proximity sensor’s target. The module works well for distances 2 – 10cm and a detection angle 35 degrees, The sensitivity of this can be adjusted by varying the potentiometer, and the sensor module output port OUT port can be directly connected to the microcontroller IO can also be used to directly drive a 5V relay.
