MQ6 – Gas Sensor Module

MQ6 – Gas Sensor Module by ADIY is a Metal Oxide Semiconductor (MOS) type Gas Sensor mainly used to detect the LPG and Butane gas concentration in the air at home or in industry. This sensor contains a sensing element, mainly aluminum-oxide-based ceramic, coated with Tin dioxide, enclosed in a stainless-steel mesh. Whenever gas comes into contact with the sensing element, the resistivity of the element changes. The change is then measured to get the concentration of the gases present. Its sensing range is very suitable for gas leak detection in homes and places like hotels, and restaurants where cooking is done using LPG cylinders.

The combustion of LPG is highly exothermal means it will release a vast amount of heat if ignited which when used in a controlled way is beneficial. Still, if an accident occurs it will be devastating. It can be used in automobiles that are CNG powered, homes, and restaurants to detect LPG gas leaks.

Description

MQ6 – Gas Sensor Module consists of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) sensor, suitable for sensing LPG (composed of mostly propane and butane) concentrations in the air. The MQ-6 can detect gas concentrations anywhere from 200 to 10000ppm. Gas Sensor – MQ6 provides an analog output corresponding to the concentration of the gases in the air and an easy-to-use digital output. The onboard potentiometer can be used to set the maximum gas concentration beyond which the digital output gets triggered.

Just power the module with 5V set the threshold and you can start getting the gas concentration of the air around the sensor! An onboard LED signals the presence of any gas. The digital output can be easily interfaced to microcontrollers and other circuits. The analog output can be hooked up to an ADC of a microcontroller to get a wide range of sensor readings.
